The Goodness Geek offers simple ways that everyone can make a positive impact on the world with some factual inspiration to carry you along the way (yes, inspirational pieces can indeed be backed up by facts). I hope to cover a wide range of topics ranging from everyday kindnesses to charity, activism, volunteerism, and more. I am also just beginning to get into board game design, so you may see content related to this on the site as well (“geek” is in the name of this blog so I guess I may as well live up to it..).

Why geek out about social good?
Being a good person isn’t easy. It’s hard to tell the difference sometimes between what actions actually have a positive impact in the world and which ones are misguided or are just for show. Especially in today’s fast-paced online world, it is easy to get sidetracked by viral content without getting a lot of facts about the situations or clues as to how you can make it better. That’s why I started this blog – to take a peek into the facts about our social landscape, and what we can do to make it better. Of course, sometimes we all need a little reassurance that we can, in fact, make it better, which is why my blog also includes inspirational content, in addition to advice and tips.

Who are you and what makes you so qualified to give me advice?
I am a nonprofit professional, and my career is centered on furthering the good work that nonprofits do in my community. I admit that I’m not perfectly kind all of the time in my everyday life, but I will try to use this platform to be introspective as well as observant. I also don’t fancy myself the #1 expert on being a good person, so I am actively seeking experts to connect with on a wide range of topics. If you have a cool idea, an article you’d like to share, or if you fancy yourself an expert in a relevant field, please contact me here. I would love to hear from you.

What are you doing designing board games?
I’ve been interested in board games since I was a kid, and have many fond memories of all-night games of Risk. Once I got to college, I got really into Settlers of Catan, and then after college, when I moved to New York City I started expanding my horizons into the wider world of gaming. While in my real life I try to dedicate my energies towards positivity and helping people, in the gaming world I enjoy some pretty long, aggressively competitive games (although I can enjoy many different types of games, including those that don’t have a reputation for ending friendships).  As for what I am designing myself, well, you can expect an update soon. (Oooooh, suspense)
