Hi everyone! This is a hectic week for me, so I thought I would take a break from the stress and write something low-key and hopefully uplifting. Working toward a positive social impact can be an exhausting job, but giving up on something you believe in is never the answer. Here are some things to consider during those times when you’re feeling overworked, overwhelmed, and overstressed.
- Changing your strategy is not the same thing as giving up. If something isn’t working for you, giving up on a particular way of doing things, is not the same as giving up on accomplishing your goals completely. If whatever you’re doing right now isn’t working for you, it doesn’t mean you are a failure – it just means your work is not yet done.
- You are not a failure. Failure is an event, not a person. You know how I know? Because if everyone who failed was then always a failure, we would all be identified as failures. We have all screwed up at some point in our lives, but it doesn’t define who we are.
- Take care of yourself. The world is not going to end if you step away for a minute to catch your breath. Helping others is difficult, and you aren’t going to be able to accomplish much if you’re not in the right mental state. Get some sleep, do something fun and low-stress, and give yourself some time to recharge if you are feeling overwhelmed.
- Remember – you have value and you have potential. Whoever you are, you are capable of doing something that will positively impact others, and chances are, they will be grateful.
