Goodness New – July 28, 2015

GoodnessNews

This has been a crazy week, and it is only going to get crazier for me as I head off to GenCon this weekend for the purposes of totally geeking out. But enough about me, here’s the news:

  • The death of Sandra Bland while in police custody has prompted understandable outrage from the community. Nonprofit Quarterly’s Rick Cohen argues that we need to begin working toward a solution to a system-wide issue.
  • Americans are eating less, and there are signs that the trend toward obesity may be finally coming to a halt. The New York Times reports that the caloric intake of Americans has declined, however, this does not mean Americans are eating healthier.
  • Keeping cool, calm, and kind in all manner of situations can be quite challenging, but it certainly pays off – both for you and for the people around you. Kindness Blog explores the art of keeping your piece of mind.
  • More donors are giving the power back to nonprofit organizations by listening to their expertise and providing general operating support. This change is being spearheaded by philanthropic leaders like the Ford Foundation and Sean Parker, the Chronicle of Philanthropy reports.
